Client Brief:
Haptic wall with focus on combining technology with coziness through a 3D knit surface, creating a different perception from up close and the distance.
Color gradient in harmony with the environment and a geometrical artwork underlining BMW’s design language. Sustainability in resources and manufacturing process.
Role: Design & Technical Lead, Stakeholder & Project management
Challenges:
•    Textile specs for public spaces, e.g. fire retardancy
•    Limited fire restistant yarn colors to create the design
•    Artwork height of +8m: Knit file size limitations
•    Balancing flat & haptic 3D surface in the design
•    Fabric shrinkage & stretch in a knitted 3D fabric
•    Calculating accurate dimensions for the builders

Project Outcome & Solution:
The design and technical challenges of the the ‘haptic wall’ were solved through calculation, testing & splitting the artwork in separately knitted textiles, navigating operational restrictions with multiple stakeholders through proactive collaboration.
